Summer Alternative to Jeans
So the weather warms up you need an alternative to jeans, which you appear to live in most of the time!! You know there must be other options out there to wear instead of jeans, but you just can’t find the time to get out there and find the solutions! Luckily we’ve done the leg work for you and found you some great alternatives to jeans for every day wear.
A great alternative to jeans for all shapes, proportions and sizes!
When it’s warm, a maxi dress gives you coverage whilst feeling cool. Plus one piece is always easier to wear than creating an outfit if you tend to struggle with what to wear! Dress down with denim jacket and some tan sandals for the perfect, cool leg coverage this summer. Dress up with wedges!
Invest in a block black colour capsule silk tee or blouse for example, and this is what you would use to make outfits from patterned trousers such as these. You just need to ensure that the capsule colour you like to wear on your top half is within the pattern of the trouser. Look to Reiss, Hush, Ted Baker, Coast, Next and All Saints for a nice capsule black silk-look tshirt or blouse.
For shoes, you could wear with nude or black heels, or they’d look great with loafers or slip ons which are very current for SS17.
Wear with a denim jacket to make more casual or a blazer to smarten up for work.
A maxi skirt can be tricky to get your wear out of in comparison to jeans, as it’s always hard to find lots of tops to work with a skirt like this. However, this is a really nice alternative to jeans in summer. You could pair with a cream / white vest or khaki would also well with this pattern. Sling on a necklace and a denim jacket to dress it down and you’re done! This can be tricky for petite women, but works well on tall figures.

This type of skirt does work for most shapes but ONLY if you understand how to work your proportions. This is often why skirts like this end up sat in the wardrobe – you like the idea of it, but you don’t know how to style it to work for your body shape! It can be a tricky one if you can’t work out your proportions.
However women can struggle to get proportions right when it comes to skirts like this. Go for a sloppy wide necked tee and wear with flats / sandals. If you want to add some summer boots, that will help with the proportions and then adding a slouchy blazer will make this skirt a little smarter.
If you have a flat-ish stomach you can go with a fitted vest type top and sling a denim jacket over the top, add a scarf or necklace and you’re ready.
If you’re tummy is a problem area, try a motif tee or striped t-shirt that sits loosely around your middle, but make sure it’s not too long. Then sling a blazer and some sunglasses on, and add some cute white pumps or converse.

Cropped trousers are a really great, versatile option as an alternative to jeans that can look both smart and casual when it comes to the spring and summer months.

If your tummy is your issue, wear with a looser drape style top, possibly with an open back, or go for a cold shoulder style top that flows over the tummy.

Styles like this one below from Oasis can be good for a lot of shapes, but if you are conscious of your tummy the belt can add bulk here, so tie it as flat as you can against your tummy OR replace with your own tan belt! The pleats are really flattering and the colour is super versatile.
